evan ray suzuki is a dance/performance artist and filmmaker of yonsei Japanese descent originally from Whidbey Island, WA, now based in Brooklyn, NY. As a director & movement director, evan is involved in a variety of film and live projects ranging from music video to experimental art film. As a choreographer, evan creates new projects in a butoh-ish choreographic style drawing additionally from postmodern and contemporary dance, found movement, and a variety of other disciplines and modalities. evan’s work has been presented at Ars Nova, JACK, Abrons Arts Center, Center for Performance Research, PAGEANT, Trans-Pecos, Triskelion Arts, WestFest, DCTV, and in many parks, galleries, and basements, as well as internationally at the Umbria Factory Festival in Spoleto, Italy. Recent projects have been supported by grants and residencies from The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Ars Nova, New Dance Alliance, Amanda+James, 98 Art Collective, and Centro Umbro di Residenze Artistiche. As a performer, evan's recent credits include works with David Neumann, Mina Nishimura, Glenn Potter-Takata, The Great Jones Repertory Company, and the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York at venues such as New York Fashion Week, Danspace Project, Mabou Mines, Movement Research at the Judson Church, and many others.
